Schwartz Law is currently investigating claims against Chris Jacobi (CRD# 1648679) of Amerprise Financial Services in Pensacola, Florida. We are seeking information from anyone who has had dealings with Mr. Jacobi, or who have suffered investment-related losses due to Mr. Jacobi recommendations to invest in Ebix, Inc (Ticker: EBIXQ). Mr. Jacobi currently has one pending customer claim which asserts allegations that Jacobi told his client that investing in the struggling software supplier Ebix was a prudent method to grow their retirement portfolio even though Ebix filed for bankruptcy in 2023, which caused the value of the security to lose significant value. If you have suffered financial losses due to unsuitable investment recommendations by Mr. Jacobi, we would like to hear from you.
What are Unsuitable Investment Recommendations?
If investments do not meet the risk tolerance and investment objectives of the investor, the investments become unsuitable investments. This could be the result of an unsuitable investment strategy, such as a wrong asset mix, an investment that is too aggressive, or an investment that is too low-risk compared to the needs of your client. Suitability varies between market participants and may depend on each investor’s situation, characteristics, and goals. What may be unsuitable for one investor may be suitable for another. Brokerage firms and other investment professionals need to assess each prospective investor to determine the suitability of their investments. The self-regulatory agency charged with oversight of the securities industry, FINRA, has rules and regulations in place to guide investment professionals on how to determine the suitability of any investment, depending on the potential investor. The regulatory body requires investment firms to collect critical information about each investor to avoid offering unsuitable investments to them. For example, penny stocks, options, futures, and other speculative investments may be unsuitable for a 90-year-old widow living on a fixed income. Her advanced age may not allow her enough time to recoup should she experience losses. Those same investments, however, may be suitable for someone in their 40s who has sufficient income and time to recover if there is a significant loss in the value of the investment.
