Schwartz Law Investigates Jonathan Best of Raymond James

Schwartz Law is currently investigating claims against Jonathan Best (CRD# 2225091) of Raymond James. Best left Raymond James in January and is now with registered investment advisory firm Jaffe Tilchin Investment Partners. In December 20204, Best was suspended by FINRA for three months and ordered to pay over $23,000 for placing unauthorized trades in an account of an elderly customer who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. From December 2017 to December 2019, Best placed at least 71 trades in the client’s account without seeking permission, according to his FINRA settlement. The principal value of the trades, which were purchases of laddered certificates of deposits, was around $14 million. This is not the first time allegations of wrong doing have been advanced against Best. In November 2020, a customer filed a complaint against Best that settled for $275,000 over allegations of unsuitable investments and unauthorized trading. The complaint was brought by a court-appointed guardian of the customer and settled to avoid the time and costs of litigation. Best left Raymond James in January and is now with registered investment advisory firm Jaffe Tilchin Investment Partners, based out of Tampa, FL. Best’s three month FINRA suspension does not affect Best’s investment advisor license, and the monetary sanctions only become due if he attempts to re-register as a broker.
