Twenty Years of Martinis for Moffitt and a Cause Worth Supporting

Last week, I had the opportunity to join fellow members of Bay Area Advisors at Moffitt Cancer Center as we presented a $300,000 contribution to support cancer research. Standing beneath the Moffitt Cancer Center atrium sign with longtime friends and fellow board members was a reminder of why so many of us continue to dedicate our time to this mission year after year.

For me, this event is personal.

I have been involved with Bay Area Advisors for 15 years, serving alongside a group of business and community leaders who share a common goal: raising money to accelerate cancer research and treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center. What began as a fundraising effort has grown into one of Tampa Bay’s most successful charitable events. This year marked the 20th Annual Martinis for Moffitt. For over two decades, the event has brought together thousands of supporters, sponsors, volunteers, physicians, researchers, and survivors. The result is real funding for groundbreaking research taking place in the Tampa Bay community.

Cancer affects nearly every family in some way. Most people can point to a parent, sibling, friend, colleague, or client whose life has been touched by the disease. That is why events like Martinis for Moffitt matter. The dollars raised are not abstract figures on a fundraising report. They help support the doctors and researchers working every day to improve outcomes for patients.

One thing I have learned during my years with Bay Area Advisors is that progress happens because people show up. They buy tickets. They sponsor the event. They make donations. They volunteer their time. Small individual efforts add up, and over time those efforts create meaningful support for cancer research.

The photo captures more than a ceremonial check presentation. It represents years of work by countless volunteers and supporters who believe in Moffitt’s mission and want to make a difference for future patients and their families.

As a longtime board member of Bay Area Advisors, I am honored to be part of an organization that continues to make an impact. Reaching the 20-year mark is an accomplishment, but the work is far from finished.
